Sleeping mats should never be washed in a top-loading washing machine:
- Self-inflating mats: the foam core would soak up water and be difficult to dry.
- Air Sprung Cell mats: the Thermolite insulation could be damaged by the center agitator.
Best cleaning method:
- Lay the mat flat and close the valve.
- Wipe with a sponge using warm water and mild dish soap.
- Rinse thoroughly – if you're able to, hosing it down outside works well.
- Air-dry completely with the valve open before storing long term.
- Do not use a dryer. A damp mat may develop mold if stored before it’s fully dry.
